The hydrogen investment roadmap showcases the UK’s hydrogen offer and the scale of our ambition for the role of the hydrogen economy in meeting net zero.

It spotlights the exciting investment opportunities across the hydrogen value chain – from production, through transmission and storage to the range of potential end uses, including power, transport and industry. It includes details of key elements of the UK policy framework which together represent the next substantial step forward in developing a thriving UK hydrogen economy.

In the two and a half years since the publication of the UK Hydrogen Strategy we have made rapid progress and are now firmly in delivery mode, supporting projects to move us closer to our hydrogen ambitions:

  • in December 2023, we announced the largest number of commercial scale green hydrogen production projects at once anywhere in Europe, awarding support to projects representing 125MW of production capacity through the first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1)
  • at the same time, we opened the second Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR2) with capacity aim of 875MW and will close for applications on 19 April 2024
  • we also made a range of announcements and publications on our growing hydrogen economy

The update to the UK’s Green Finance Strategy sets out how government will align our world-leading financial centre to a net zero, nature positive and climate resilient world, and how government will mobilise public and private financial flows to meet our climate and environmental targets.
