Details

This Business Engagement Assessment has considered the quantitative and qualitative impacts that the options and our approach to revising river flow and water abstraction standards may have on the future viability of hydropower schemes compared to our existing hydropower Good Practice Guidelines.

This final assessment has been completed in consultation with industry representatives from the British Hydropower Association and Micro Hydro Association, with both of these organisations providing data and qualitative input to the process. Accountability for Regulator Impact requires us to quantify the financial impacts from the more significant changes to the way we deliver regulation and discuss these in advance with business.

Before we make any such changes to our regulatory approaches, we must describe the proposed change and its expected effects in the form of a draft Business Engagement Assessment (BEA) discuss and, if possible, agree the assessment with business representatives publish draft and finalised assessments online, following business feedback.
