The Parliamentary Ombudsman’s report of their investigation into the Icelandic Water Trawlermen Compensation Scheme run by the department. Following complaints by former Icelandic water trawlermen and local port MPs, the Ombudsman found evidence of maladministration by the department relating to the consultation conducted before the 2009 scheme. This consultation led to false expectations of what the 2009 scheme would deliver, and caused injustice when those reasonable expectations were not met. See also the department’s apology URN 12/704 and questions and answers 12/705.
