Details

We marked the completion of UK obligations to Herschel in 2016 by carrying out a detailed and independently verified end of mission impact evaluation.

This report considers the following:

  • policy context
  • delivery factors
  • direct outputs
  • outcomes and impact of public funding from 1998 to 2016

These factors assess the scientific, economic and societal return from the investment and whether overall objectives were met.

The report finds that the core investment objectives were all met or exceeded, and that the UK roles in the Herschel mission delivered significant UK science return, economic benefit and value for money.
