The Government welcomes the report and is grateful to the review group and its chair, for its comprehensive appraisal of the issues and clear recommendations. The report will require careful consideration and the Government will publish a substantive response in due course, after Ministers in all four UK countries have had the opportunity to consider its content

The report of the independent review group was submitted to the Secretary of State for Health on 30 June 2010, with copies sent to the other UK administrations.

Following discussion with the trades unions representing health care professionals, the previous administration commissioned an independent review of policy on professional registration. The review was led by Finlay Scott, the former Chief Executive of the General Medical Council.
