Independent school enforcement letters list

Updated 10 March 2025

Applies to England

As of 28 February 2025, the Department for Education was taking enforcement action against these independent schools.

We take enforcement action against schools which do not meet the independent school standards, and do not improve quickly.

Enforcement action can be:

  • a relevant restriction on the proprietor of a school
  • de-registration, which removes the school from the register of independent schools

Relevant restrictions can include, for example:

  • barring the admission of new pupils to the school
  • stopping part of the school’s operation

It is a criminal offence to operate an unregistered school, or for a proprietor to breach a relevant restriction.

Read a full inspection report on the individual school’s website, or search for a school’s latest report on the Ofsted or Independent Schools Inspectorate websites.
