The action plans are the result of joint working between government and industry to identify voluntary commitments from all parties to enable sectors to decarbonise and improve their energy efficiency. They cover 7 energy intensive sectors:

  • cement
  • ceramics
  • chemicals
  • food and drink
  • glass
  • oil refining
  • pulp and paper

The plans build on the Industrial Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency Roadmaps to 2050, which set out a series of potential pathways for emissions reductions that could be achieved in different decarbonisation scenarios. They provide a framework for continued joint working on decarbonisation and energy efficiency matters.

With industry representing nearly a quarter of UK emissions, these plans are an important part of the Clean Growth Strategy.
