Details
The Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator (IEEA) programme aims to increase the number of innovative technologies available to help UK industry to improve energy and resource efficiencies, and cut carbon emissions.
The programme seeks to support industry-specific solutions which are close to commercialisation, by leveraging private sector investment and strengthening UK supply chains to reduce energy and resource costs for industry. This is designed to strengthen the global competitiveness of UK industry in many sectors including manufacturing, waste processing and data centres.
The Carbon Trust delivers the IEEA on behalf of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), with support from Jacobs and the KTN. Visit the Carbon Trust website for further information, including case studies of previous projects, and to stay up to date on the programme.
The programme consists of 4 phases, all of which are now closed to applications.
Phase 3 and 4
Phase 3 and 4 of the IEEA provided around £8.2 million in grant funding, through the £1 billion Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP) which runs until 2025.
Both phases look to support the development and demonstration of innovative technologies that can cut carbon emissions as well as either reduce energy consumption or maximise resource efficiency in industry.
Phase 3
The third phase opened in October 2021 and closed in February 2022.
More than 70 technology ideas were screened and over £3.6 million in grant funding was committed to 8 successful projects. Projects were selected on their energy, resource and carbon saving potential, in addition to their technical feasibility and scalability. Many of these technologies are applicable beyond the industrial sectors in which they are demonstrating.

Phase 4
The fourth phase opened in May 2022 and closed in September of the same year.
From 175 technologies screened, 7 successful projects were selected based on their energy, resource and carbon savings potential. Around £4.8 million was committed to these projects to develop and demonstrate their innovative technologies, in industry.

Phase 1 and 2
Phases 1 and 2 of the IEEA ran from 2017 to 2021 as part of the Energy Innovation Programme (EIP), the predecessor to NZIP. Up to £8 million was available to support innovations that improve energy efficiency and cut carbon emissions in industry.
Phase 1 successful projects
More than 100 technology ideas were screened, and £2.7 million was committed to 7 successful projects. Projects were selected on their energy saving potential and scalability, with particular focus on technologies that can be deployed across multiple industrial sectors.

Phase 2 successful projects
The second phase launched on 1 February 2019 and ran until 30 April 2019.
Over 60 projects were assessed and 9 successful projects were selected based on energy saving potential and scalability. Despite being demonstrated in specific sectors, many solutions have wider industry applications.
