Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator Programme (competition closed)
The Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator Programme provides funding for innovation projects that can demonstrate end-to-end industrial fuel switching to hydrogen.
Documents
Details
The Industrial Hydrogen Accelerator (IHA) competition supported projects generating evidence on end-to-end industrial fuel switching to hydrogen. It covered the full technology chain, from hydrogen generation and delivery infrastructure through to industrial end-use, including the integration of the components in a single project.
The competition funded demonstrations and, where needed, feasibility and FEED studies:
- the feasibility studies explore how systems could be designed and provide information on the technical requirements and costs
- the demonstration projects construct end-to-end industrial hydrogen systems, from hydrogen production to end-use, to prove their feasibility and provide further evidence on the real-world performance and costs
The IHA forms part of the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio, which aimed to accelerate the commercialisation of innovative clean energy technologies and processes through the 2020s and 2030s.
Programme structure
- Stream 1: Demonstration projects – Grant (up to £10 million in grant funding per project). Competition closed
- Stream 2A: Feasibility studies – SBRI (up to £400,000 in SBRI funding per project). Competition closed
- Stream 2B: Demonstration / FEED projects – Grant (up to £7 million available per project) - open only to projects who have completed feasibility studies in Stream 2A. Competition closed
Other hydrogen and industry funding opportunities
Some other funds that may be relevant to your project:
- Industrial Energy Transformation Fund Phase 2
- Electrolytic Allocation Round (Hydrogen business model and Net Zero Hydrogen Fund, reopening in 2023)

We will use the evidence generated by the IHA on the use of hydrogen by industrial users to inform strategic decisions in 2026 on the role of low carbon hydrogen as a replacement for natural gas in the gas grid. For more information on this policy area see the August 2021 UK Hydrogen Strategy.
