This rapid evidence summary aimed to explore clinical and epidemiological characteristics of people with conjunctivitis caused by influenza A (subtypes H5 or H7).

This rapid evidence summary searched for research published up to 26 April 2024 and included 12 studies.

There was limited evidence with small sample sizes suggesting H5N1, H7N7, and H7N3 could be associated with presence of conjunctivitis and influenza-like symptoms.

The evidence suggests incubation period for H7N3 could range between 1 and 10 days.

However, most evidence came from case reports, limiting the extent to which results can be generalised.
