Details

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is an international agreement setting out the fundamental rights of everyone under the age of 18 and is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history.

The UK ratified the UNCRC in 1991, and domestic legislation in England underpins its commitment to the UNCRC and safeguards the rights of children, including legislation which sets out the role of the Children’s Commissioner for England.

The government reports to the UN Committee on the work we do across the UK to implement the UNCRC and promote children’s rights. We submitted our report to the Committee on 15 June 2022. During the reporting round we worked closely with children and young people to ensure their voice was heard.

To support children and young people’s understanding of the report, we produced an infographic for children and young people that summarises the actions the UK government is taking to support and promote children’s rights.
