Re: Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request
Thank you for your email of 10 May in which you requested from the Insolvency Service:
Company registration numbers and appointment dates for all Administrations and CVLs from January 2020 to December 2021.
Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
I can confirm the agency holds the information that you have requested. I have provided a table at Annex A with the company number, name, register location, insolvency procedure, quarter and date of registration with Companies House, and the start date of the insolvency for every company that entered an administration or CVL in the United Kingdom, where that insolvency was registered with Companies House between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2021.
Under section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it useful to note:
All formal insolvency procedures entered into by a company, a partnership or an individual are required by law to be reported to the appropriate body, so the companies list provided in Annex A should be complete subject to the caveats below.
The list of cases was provided to the Insolvency Service by Companies House. The Insolvency Service has cleaned the data, including removing duplicate liquidations. Numbers of cases should be consistent with the non-seasonally adjusted numbers in Tables 1b, 2, 4 and 6 of the January to March 2022 Insolvency Statistics. Where a company has entered a CVL following Administration, it is listed twice, once each with the case types ‘In Administration’ and ‘Administration to CVL’. It is not listed separately as a CVL or included in the number of CVLs in Tables 1b, 4 and 6.
Case start dates as provided by Companies House should be treated with caution as they are often missing, incomplete, or inaccurate. Numbers of administrations and CVLs in Insolvency Service Official Statistics are presented based on registration date.
Please note FOIA only applies to recorded information, it does not require public authorities to answer a question unless recorded information exists. Therefore, to answer a request FOIA does not oblige a public authority to create information if the requested information is not held.
If you are not satisfied with the response we have provided you and would like us to reconsider our decision by way of an internal review (IR), please contact our Information Rights Team at foi@insolvency.gov.uk or by post at:
