Dear ,
Re: Freedom of Information Act 2000
Thank you for your email of 24 November 2020 in which you requested from the Insolvency Service details of:
“how many complaints have been received about companies and directors by the Compliance and Targeting Team of the Insolvency Service, how many were rejected and how many actually investigated”.
Your request has been dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
I can confirm the agency holds the information that you have requested in the absence in your request of any details for date ranges I have provided answers to your questions below:
- Between 1 April 2019 and 31 March 2020, 4,335 complaints were received which resulted in 289 investigations being commenced.
- From 1 April 2020 to 17 December 3,566 complaints were received which resulted in 63 investigations being commenced.
You should be aware that a single investigation may be linked to more than one complaint and the data above relates to complaints about live companies and investigations commenced under the Companies Acts.
If you are not satisfied with the response we have provided you and would like us to reconsider our decision by way of an internal review (IR), please contact our Information Rights Team at foi@insolvency.gov.uk or by post at:
