Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI): Disproportionate withdrawal of qualification certificates Undertaking accepted Closed 17 November 2017

On 29 August 2017, the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), gave Ofqual an undertaking that sets out the steps it will take to secure compliance with our ‘General Conditions of Recognition’, specifically:

  • A6 – Identification and management of risks
  • A8 – Dealing with malpractice and maladministration
  • I4 – Issuing certificates and replacement certificates

IMI has undertaken to:

  • review its governance arrangements and systems of control for issuing and withdrawing certificates
  • review its current malpractice and maladministration operating process
  • ensure that all applicable staff receive training

IMI will implement any changes to its systems of control, as required by its review, by 30 September 2017.

In line with general condition B8, IMI must now take all the steps identified in the undertaking. We may take further action if it doesn’t follow through on its commitments.
