Innovation will help the UK to seize the opportunities and confront the challenges of the modern age. The UK’s intellectual property regime is central to innovation. It gives inventors, creatives, and entrepreneurs, the confidence to invest in innovation and reap the benefits of their investments.

The UK already has one of the best IP regimes in the world. It is ranked as one of the top regimes in both the Taylor-Wessing Global IP Index and the US Chamber of Commerce International IP Index.

Our ambition is to be the best IP office and this plan is the third step in delivering the IPO Strategy. We can help to make the UK the most creative and innovative country in the world by:

Delivering our core services

For the UK to be the best place to start and grow a business we must ensure that we continue to grant high quality IP rights on time meeting the expectations of all our customers.

Supporting the UK’s independent economic and political future

We will work across government to the outcome of trade negotiations retain the flexibility to develop our IP system in line with our domestic priorities. We will support businesses to understand the implications for IP of the UK leaving the EU.

Understanding the impact of future technology on the IP framework

Helping the UK government solve the grand challenges facing our society and unleashing innovation.

Transforming the way we provide our IP services to our customers is essential to providing excellent IP services in the future. We want to ensure that the services we provide support innovative businesses in an increasingly digital environment. We will put our customers at the heart of this work.
