Interim accommodation: medical cases
Updated 8 February 2024
Dear Guest,
In July 2023, the Home Office introduced interim (‘temporary’) accommodation, also referred to as ‘IA’, for specific groups of people. This meant that the UK government continued to provide accommodation for a short time after bridging accommodation closed. Medical cases, as defined in published guidance, were one of the specific groups for whom interim accommodation was provided.
Your household was able to stay in interim accommodation because someone in your household met the definition of a ‘medical case’ during bridging accommodation closure. Your household will now be able to stay in interim accommodation until no later than 31 March 2024.
We have not changed the other conditions under which we can end our provision of interim accommodation. If your household is made, and accepts, an allocation of settled accommodation you will be expected to move out of interim accommodation either when your settled accommodation is ready, or by 31 March 2024, whichever comes first.
Conditions that can lead to the end of interim accommodation being provided are set out in our published guidance.
We want to assure you that you will be supported throughout this time. You will not be left without help to manage your move out of hotels. The UK government remains committed to supporting you in finding suitable settled homes, and accessing health, education and employment so that you can continue to build your lives in the UK.
Moving into settled accommodation is your first step towards fully integrating into life in the UK. In the future, you may decide to move independently to a different area, and you will be able to make your own arrangements to do so.
Home Office Liaison Officers, as well as other support services, will continue to be available in hotels to help with any questions or concerns. If you have any questions, you should talk to your Home Office Liaison Officer.
Yours faithfully,
Resettlement Services
