Details

Fatigue is a known a factor in many maritime accidents. Managing fatigue effectively is important for:

  • maritime safety
  • preventing pollution
  • the health and safety of ships’ crews

Part 1 of the guidance is for:

  • senior management
  • ship owners
  • shipping companies

It describes what fatigue is, the causes of it, and the approaches to dealing with it.

The annex supports part 1, and gives model formats for:

  • shipboard working arrangements
  • recording hours of work and rest for seafarers
