Details

JETS provided voluntary specialist employment support to help the many claimants who lost their job during the Covid-19 pandemic, back to work. The programme was introduced across England and Wales in October 2020 and ended in September 2022.

JETS was aimed at helping those individuals unemployed for at least 13 weeks and on Universal Credit – Intensive Work Search (UC-IWS) or Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA). DWP contracted external providers to deliver 6 months of tailored employment support services to participants.

This report focuses on the labour market effects of participating in the scheme.

Contribution to the evidence base

JETS was part of the wider ‘Plan for Jobs’ initiative, which also included the Kickstart Scheme, Job Finding Support Programme (JFS), an expansion of the Work and Health Programme, and the Job Retention Bonus scheme, and the Restart Scheme, among other support to protect and create jobs.

The findings add to the existing published evidence showing the impact and return on investment of DWP labour market programmes.

Research value

These findings have been used to inform the extension of the Restart Scheme.
