Summary
Representatives of the Government of the UK and the Government of Rwanda held the third meeting of the joint committee on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 February in London.
The joint committee received an update on the UK legal proceedings, including the detail of the recent judgement of the Divisional Court and upcoming Court of Appeal hearing.
The Government of Rwanda provided an update on readiness to receive relocations and their ability and plans to increase capacity. The UK Government provided an update on its operational preparations for future flights.
The joint committee discussed a number of options to strengthen the memorandum of understanding.
The joint committee discussed next steps on establishing the monitoring committee and agreed the first meeting of the monitoring committee, and induction on Rwanda’s MEDP processes, would take place in Kigali in March, and for the subsequent meeting to be held in London.
The next meeting of the joint committee will be in Kigali.
