On 4 November 2024, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and David Lammy, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, agreed to elevate the bilateral relationship between the 2 countries to a Strategic Partnership.

The Nigeria-UK Strategic Partnership will provide a comprehensive framework for jointly achieving our shared objectives and further strengthening our bilateral relationship. It will build on and strengthen our existing bilateral dialogues across areas.
