Joint E3 letter on JCPoA

Details

The Chancellor and the Foreign Secretary, jointly with their French and German counterparts, have written a letter to Secretary Pompeo and Secretary Mnuchin presenting our requests for particular exemptions from US secondary sanctions.

These requests include:

  • grandfathering clauses
  • extension of the winding-down periods
  • confirmation that secondary sanctions will not apply to pharmaceuticals and healthcare
  • exemptions for key sectors (energy, automotive, civil aviation and infrastructure) as well as enabling appropriate banking and financing channels.

The requests aim to reduce the risks that US secondary sanctions could pose to EU and UK businesses.
