Change to Lord Kamall’s role with the Institute for Economic Affairs
Lord Kamall informed the Committee of a change to his role in March 2024. He said that his work at the Institute for Economic Affairs would be changed and he will become the Director of Academic Outreach. Lord Kamall’s new responsibilities are similar to those he held as a Fellow, but with some additional responsibilities in the same area and in a leadership capacity. It will include:
- Leading the Education team to deliver the education strategy
- Furthering understanding amongst academics and scholars, including PhD students, of IEA’s research, publications and academic events
- Extending the academic audience for IEA publications, educational and grant programmes by working with academics and scholars within the UK and internationally
- Asking more academics to speak at or write for the IEA
- Advising on educational activities to support the relationship between the IEA and the Vinson Centre at the University of Buckingham
This change in role broadly similar to that he previously received advice on. In the circumstances, the Committee considered the change of this role did not change its assessment of the risks under the government’s Business Appointment Rules; and the conditions already imposed on the appointment remain appropriate.
