Kier Highways Limited: application made to abstract water

Kier Highways Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is for a licence to abstract water from the Great Oolite Limestone Group at Cowley, Gloucestershire in two areas bounded by the following National Grid References (NGRs):
- SO 94005 14901, SO 94151 15005, SO 94723 14200, and SO 94577 14066; and
- SO 94704 13837, SO 94818 13866, SO 94945 13469, and SO 94834 13435.
To transfer it to the Great Oolite Limestone Group at Cowley, Gloucestershire, at the following NGRs:
- SO 94349 14700;
- SO 94550 14066;
- SO 94781 13520;
- SO 94849 13409; and
- SO 94816 13314;
without intervening use.
The application is to abstract water as follows:
- 39.6 cubic metres an hour
- 950 cubic metres a day
- 346,750 cubic metres a year.
Further details are:
- This licence application is associated with the ‘A417 Missing Link’ scheme.
- The reason for carrying out the transfer is to dewater part of the construction site.
- Water will be discharged into seepage lagoons at the NGRs listed above.
