Kier Infrastructure and Overseas Limited: application made to abstract water

Kier Infrastructure and Overseas Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number SW/044/0059/012 to abstract water from underground strata comprising of Tidal Flat Deposits at National Grid Reference SY 94215 86900 (approximate centre of abstraction area) at Arne, Warham, Dorset for the purpose of dewatering.
The variation applied for is to:
1) increase the abstraction quantities:
- from 114,912 cubic metres per year to 372,557 cubic metres per year
- from 36 litres per second to 72 litres per second
2) amend the abstraction period from April to October inclusive to all year.
3) reduce the area of abstraction (in an area contained within the National Grid References below):
- from SY 93607 87889 to SY 93810 87190
- from SY 95926 87886 to SY 93809 86711
- from SY 93605 86205 to SY 94596 87189
- from SY 95925 86202 to SY 94596 86710
As per the current licence all the abstracted water will be returned to the River Frome via the surrounding surface water drains.
