Kinship carers in the workplace

Details

The UK government is working to improve support for kinship families. This is part of the wider children’s social care reform. Being a kinship carer can present challenges to individuals remaining in work. They will benefit from extra support and flexibility from their employers.

This document provides guidance for employers on:

  • what kinship care is
  • what becoming a kinship carer means
  • available entitlements
  • adapting internal policies to include kinship carers
  • creating a culture of support
