In 2015, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) fined an association of estate and lettings agents, 3 of its members and a newspaper publisher over £735,000 for agreeing to prevent the advertising of fees or discounts in a local newspaper.

This open letter to the newspaper publishing industry explains the CMA’s concerns about this conduct, the lessons to be learned from this case, and the actions businesses can take to ensure they comply with competition law.
