Details

Natural England has received funding from EU LIFE for the LIFE Moor Space partnership project.

The project will contribute to delivering the Thorne Moor Special Area of Conservation (SAC) vision of a functioning lowland raised bog and a self-sustaining ecosystem that:

  • accumulates carbon
  • regulates water flow
  • supports a rich variety of habitats and species
  • supports recreational and cultural activities
  • is resilient to climate change

The project will deliver practical bog restoration actions including scrub removal, water level management and sphagnum planting. It also aims to trial innovative green financing agreements.

In addition to the £1.2 million grant from EU LIFE, project partner contributions make a total of £2.1 million funding for LIFE Moor Space. The project runs for 5 years from October 2021.
