Details
Natural England has received funding from EU LIFE for the LIFE R4ever Kent partnership project. This project has a special focus on freshwater pearl mussels (Margaritifera margaritifera).
The LIFE R4ever Kent project aims to:
- improve the ecological condition of internationally important habitat and species
- remove invasive species from over 20 kilometres of the rivers
- facilitate the set-up of agri-environment scheme agreements
- increase awareness of the importance of the SAC
The project will achieve this by working with farmers, land managers and the local community.
Natural England leads the project, working in partnership with:
- the Environment Agency
- South Cumbria Rivers Trust
- Freshwater Biological Association
In addition to the £2.6 million grant from EU LIFE, project partner contributions make a total of £3.6 million funding for LIFE R4ever Kent. The project will run for 5 years from October 2021.
