A connected society: a strategy for tackling loneliness, published in October 2018, was the world’s first government strategy developed to tackle loneliness. It demonstrated that loneliness can affect anyone and everyone, with major impacts on health and wellbeing, and laid the foundations for a generation of policy work. We have made good progress, delivering against all the departmental commitments in the original strategy.

The fourth annual report celebrates the work we have undertaken with a wide range of partners to raise awareness of loneliness and improve the support for lonely people in England over the last five years. It also captures new and ongoing actions that government departments are committed to delivering between 2023-2025.
