Scenario deployment analysis for long-duration electricity storage

Details

Long duration electricity storage could provide an important contribution to decarbonising our energy system, for example by storing renewable power and discharging it over periods of low weather-dependent generation.

This study provides an independent assessment of the role of a range of long duration electricity storage (LDES) technologies at different scales in delivering the flexibility needed for the electricity system.

It assesses the impacts of deploying such technologies over a number of different system scenarios to ensure a range of circumstances are reflected.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero commissioned LCP Delta and Regen to undertake the study.

We have published this alongside a consultation on proposals to enable investment in LDES.
