Longcliffe Quarries Limited: application made to abstract water

Longcliffe Quarries Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number MD/028/0040/010 to abstract water from underground strata comprising of Carboniferous Limestone at Brassington Moor Quarry, Aldwark, Matlock for the purpose of transferring the water without intervening use to a settlement lagoon or Barnfield Quarry within the site boundary.
The variation applied for is to increase the size of the area of abstraction and to increase the abstraction quantities to the following:
- 360 cubic metres an hour (currently 220 cubic metres)
- 8,640 cubic metres a day (currently 4,320 cubic metres)
- 3,153,600 cubic metres a year (currently 1,188,000 cubic metres)
Abstraction will take place all year for the purpose of dewatering. All abstracted water is returned to the same underground strata.
