Background to the longer semi-trailer trial

The longer semi-trailer trial was launched in 2012 following the government’s logistics growth review. It is anticipated that the 10 year trial will save 3,000 tonnes of carbon emissions and £33 million savings to operators. A total of 1,800 longer semi-trailers has been allocated to approximately 150 operators and to date, just over 1,650 longer semi-trailers are either on the road or in build. This document present the findings from the third year of the trial.
