Details
The Department for Transport (DfT) began a trial of longer semi-trailers (LSTs) for articulated goods vehicles in January 2012 on roads in Great Britain.
The trial aims to see if using longer semi-trailers achieves the anticipated environmental and economic benefits while assessing their impact on road safety.
Published here are:
- the full 2019 annual report
- a summary of findings up to and including the eighth year of the trial
- a summary of good operational practice to be used by LST operators and any other relevant industry representatives or regulatory bodies
There remain some unallocated LSTs available. Should operators wish to join the trial or increase the numbers they are already operating, please submit applications to freight@dft.gov.uk.
The DfT will no longer cap allocations at a maximum of 50 LSTs but will continue to limit the numbers to a maximum of 20% of your current fleet.
