This low risk waste position (LRWP) applies if you store and treat hazardous components from waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) (List of Waste code 16 02 15*) at existing T11 exempt operations.
If you follow the conditions in this LRWP you can carry out the activity without an environmental permit for a waste operation.
Conditions you must comply with
You must:
- only store and treat cables, printed circuit boards and other plastic components under List of Waste code 16 02 15*
- only recover components by reusing them, preparing them for reuse or dismantling them for recovery
- register and comply with all the other conditions in T11 waste exemption: repairing or refurbishing waste electrical and electronic equipment
- store and treat no more than 10 tonnes of hazardous components at any one time
- follow the guidance on classifying waste electrical devices, components and wastes from their treatment
You must not:
- treat any component that contains polychlorinated biphenyls or free asbestos
- grind, granulate, shred or chemically treat the components
You must make sure your activities do not endanger human health or the environment. You must not:
- cause a risk to water, air, soil, plants or animals
- cause a nuisance through noise or odours
- adversely affect the countryside or places of special interest
Enforcement
A LRWP means that the Environment Agency will not normally take enforcement action against you if:
- your activity meets the description set out in this LRWP
- you comply with the conditions set out in this LRWP
- your activity does not, and is not likely to, cause environmental pollution or harm human health
