Manual treatment of waste windows and doors: LRWP 71

Updated 31 October 2024

Applies to England

This low risk waste position (LRWP) applies if you sort, repair, refurbish or dismantle waste windows and doors (List of Waste code 17 09 04) made of multiple materials, including:

  • metal reinforcing beams
  • locks
  • latches
  • handles
  • rubber and plastic seals
  • glass

This LRWP acts as if List of Waste code 17 09 04 is included in the T12 waste exemption for manually treating waste.

If you follow the conditions in this LRWP you can carry out your activity without an environmental permit for a waste operation.

Conditions you must comply with

You must:

  • register a T12 exemption and comply with the conditions
  • store and treat the waste in a secure place – a secure place is where you have taken all reasonable precautions to stop waste escaping and members of the public cannot gain access

You must make sure your activities do not endanger human health or the environment. You must not:

  • cause a risk to water, air, soil, plants or animals
  • cause a nuisance through noise or odours
  • adversely affect the countryside or places of special interest

Enforcement

A LRWP means that the Environment Agency will not normally take enforcement action against you provided:

  • your activity meets the description set out in this LRWP
  • you comply with the conditions set out in this LRWP
  • your activity does not, and is not likely to, cause environmental pollution or harm human health
