Lower Thames Crossing

A Lower Thames crossing will reduce congestion at the existing Dartford crossing and support growth plans, including new homes and jobs in Essex and Kent.
On 12 April 2017, the Secretary of State for Transport announced the preferred route for the Lower Thames Crossing.
Highways England assessed options for a new road crossing of the River Thames, which led to a public consultation in 2016. This followed studies and a public consultation in 2013 which confirmed that a new crossing was needed.
