Details

The case study compared Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) recipient areas with non-recipient areas to:

  • measure mode shift towards sustainable travel
  • examine who changed their travel behaviour and why
  • assess the impact on carbon emissions

There is indicative evidence for a reduction in car travel and increases in active travel. The greatest change occured among less affluent, older sceptics; town and rural heavy car users; and young urbanites without car. Carbon emissions reduced by around 3%.
