This prison service instruction (PSI) describes the procedures that prison staff must follow to keep keys and locks safe and secure at all times.

It contains guidance on how keys should be properly:

  • stored
  • checked out
  • carried
  • used

It also explains the rules for reporting lost, damaged or compromised keys and locks.

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 1 October 2011.
