Details

This prison service instruction (PSI) describes how prisons should be managed at night when prisoners are locked in their cells (known as night state).

It includes guidance on:

  • preparing to enter night state, including key and radio checks
  • arrangements for ‘at risk’ prisoners
  • management of incidents and procedures for opening cells
  • coming out of night state

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 2 May 2011.
