This prison service instruction (PSI) sets out how to securely manage prison entrances (gates) so that only authorised people and items are allowed in and out.

It covers:

  • processes for managing the entry and exit of authorised people and items
  • dealing with banned or prohibited items
  • managing prisoner entry and exit
  • guidance for searching
  • managing the entry, internal movement and exit of vehicles
  • managing keys securely

This is a current PSI. It came into effect on 1 April 2011.
