This Policy Framework replaces PSI 12/2011 and PSI 14/2015. It contains requirements and information on the personal belongings (property) that prisoners can have with them in prison and limits on storage. It sets out procedures for searching and handling prisoners’ property to ensure that items are managed efficiently, effectively and with care.
It covers:
- property that can be kept in prison and rules on storage
- the quantities of property that are allowed (volumetric control)
- sending in and sending out property
- searching, recording, storing and issuing property
- handling property when a prisoner is transferred or released
- handling unclaimed, unauthorised or unattributable property
