Manchester Metropolitan University: application made to abstract water

Manchester Metropolitan University has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.
The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.
The application is to vary licence serial number NW/069/0004/003 which authorises the abstraction of water from underground strata comprising of Sherwood Sandstone at Manchester Metropolitan University, Birley Fields Campus, Hulme, Manchester.
The variation applied for is to add an abstraction borehole at National Grid Reference (NGR) SJ 83741 96774 and a recharge borehole at NGR SJ 83806 96527. The variation will also add the purpose of Ground source heating and remove the existing purpose of Domestic use from the licence. The variation will also increase the abstraction volumes to: 115 cubic metres per hour, 2,760 cubic metres per day and 615,183 cubic metres per year at an instantaneous rate not exceeding 32 litres per second.
