1. APPENDIX – UK AIS Network

The MCA has established an AIS network in accordance with SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 19 and for base station transponders. The AIS network consists of base stations located as shown in the table.

The AIS Network is designed to operate within IMO guidelines and will be capable of receiving all message types and in particular AIS message type 5 - Ship Static and Voyage Related Data - provided at six-minute intervals in accordance with the ITU recommendation, ITU R M. 1371-5 (2014). This automated procedure enables identification and tracking of suitably equipped vessels without further intervention from either the vessel’s crew or coastguard personnel.
