Agenda item 1 - Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates
1. The chair welcomed Bob Speel from the Home Office who is undertaking a tailored review of the MAC.
2. Paul Regan updated the MAC on Home Office business. He said that that the Ministers were considering the Government’s response to the Shortage Occupation List (SOL) review. The EU settlement scheme is operating well and there is continuing engagement on the White Paper.
3. Jennifer Bradley mentioned the secretariat began preparatory work for the salary threshold commission. The secretariat has also been responding to responses to the SOL report; a largely positive response, however, there was some disappointment from some occupations that were not recommended to be added to the SOL, and some which do not qualify as highly-skilled. Recruitment has begun in the secretariat to bolster the team for the future role.
4. Professor Manning attended a meeting with MPs and representatives of the fishing industry where concerns about the industry were discussed.

5. Maria Del Castillo introduced this section and asked the committee for their thoughts on the type of analytical work to be undertaken.

6. Richard Cahill led a discussion asking the Committee for their thoughts on the future workplan of the MAC.
