Agenda item 1 - Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates
1. Paul Regan updated the MAC on the Home Office business, the White Paper engagement is still being undertaken. The EEA settlement scheme running well at present. There was a debate in Parliament over the composition of the MAC.
2. Jennifer Bradley, on behalf of the MAC Secretariat, said we had responded to several consultations, one from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on the future of migration statistics; the other on the simplification of immigration rules and the responses were published on the websites. We have set up a meeting of the stakeholder employer panel to discuss the forthcoming shortage occupation lists (SOL) report.
3. Professor Manning and Madeleine Sumption attended an ONS meeting on the quality of data and migration statistics. Madeleine Sumption stated that Migration Observatory is undertaking research on salary thresholds using FOI data on Tier 2 (General) first time entrants which might be of interest when published.
Agenda item 2 – SOL Report Chapters
4. The MAC discussed each of the chapters of the draft final report including the chairman’s foreword, recommendations for SOC codes, all skill level occupations and the final conclusions.
5. The role of the SOLs for the devolved administrations was discussed, as was the potential future of the SOLs.
