Agenda item 1 - Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates
1. Paul Regan updated the MAC on the Home Office. Entrepreneurs strand of Tier 2 is currently being delivered, it follows on from advice provided by the MAC in previous reports. The Home Office stakeholder engagement events around the country are in full flow.
2. Jennifer Bradley on behalf of the MAC Secretariat discussed a range of meetings held with sector-based bodies on the shortage occupation list (SOL) in addition to issues regarding access to data sets. There has been a meeting with Ireland to discuss how they undertake their SOL.
3. Professor Manning met the Home Secretary to discuss the MAC’s current workstreams, in addition to attending an all-party parliamentary group.
4. The date of publication has been agreed as 29th May 2019.
Agenda item 2 – Report chapters
5. The MAC discussed each of the SOC codes and relevant job titles to establish the evidence base for potential inclusion on the SOL.
6. Peter Gambrill presented a paper on medium and low skilled occupations and discussed how the MAC will include this within the report. He reported on the range of occupations and job titles lower than RQF 6 that were highlighted through the MAC call for evidence.
Agenda item 3 –Usage of the SOL: CoS
7. Joshua Reeve presented a paper on the Certificate of Sponsorship data, including comparisons between regions. The data was discussed for a range of job titles and the factors that could be influencing which job title are prevalent on the SOL.
Agenda item 4 – Regional considerations
8. Professor Alan Manning discussed the potential for regional shortage occupation lists and considerations around remote areas.
Agenda item 5 – SOL workplan
9. Maria del Castillo gave an update on the SOL workplan which accommodates for the change in the date of publication.
