Agenda Item 1 – Welcome and introductions
1. Brian Bell opened the meeting and welcomed the attendees. Brian also introduced two new starters to the secretariat.
Agenda Item 2 – Home Office, MAC Secretariat and MAC updates
2. Della McVay updated the committee and secretariat members on Home Office business, including the status of the Shortage Occupation List (SOL) commission, for which the work has been paused, and the future migration plan.
3. Toby Nutley updated the committee on recruiting a 6th committee member, which has not resulted in any suitable candidates. Also, Toby gave an update on the work with DEFRA relating to shortages in the food and farming sector and upcoming qualitative research the secretariat have planned.
4. Brian provided a read-out of a meeting with Lt Gen Skeates from Cabinet Office on small boats. Brian announced his intention to not apply for a second term as Chair of the MAC. The committee showed their appreciation of the good work he has done in the role.
Agenda item 3 – Annual Report – first full draft
5. The secretariat updated the committee on the first full draft of the Annual Report. Discussing each chapter in turn, with the committee providing comments to be taken into account for the next draft.
Agenda item 4 – Migrant wage progression
6. The secretariat gave a brief presentation with the initial findings and next steps for a salary progression project.
Agenda item 5 – Employer research update
7. In the interests of time, this item was agreed to be discussed at the next committee meeting.
