Notice to all ship owners, masters, officers, ratings and those concerned with maritime training.

This MIN details the changes in the requirements to obtain Y4 and Y3 certificate of competency currently detailed in MSN 1859. The change relates to the acceptance of SQA small vessel auxiliary equipment 1 module and examination as an alternative to completing the SQA yacht auxiliary Equipment module and examination. As the clutches and gearbox syllabus is not covered in the auxiliary equipment 1 module this will now be covered in the MCA oral examination at Y3 and Y4 level.
