Summary

United Kingdom is to discontinue the Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) service after 31 March 2022. This note is to provide adequate notice of the end of the DGPS service around the UK coast.

1. Background

1.1 UK has provided augmentation to the United States of America’s GPS (Global Positioning System) service around the UK coast since 1997.

1.2 This ground-based augmentation system, called the Differential GPS (DGPS), was being provided by the General Lighthouse Authorities of the UK and Ireland (GLA). UK government, in consultation with the GLA, resolved that the DGPS system has now become redundant and has decided to discontinue the DGPS service after 31 March 2022.
