A change in a person’s life or environment – defined in this research as a ‘moment of change’ – can make them more likely to adopt new or different travel behaviours.
An understanding of moments of change and their connection to transport can enhance the effectiveness of travel interventions.
This research was commissioned in 2023 and produced 2 reports.
The first report explains how and why moments of change affect behaviour and provides a framework to help those designing interventions to promote sustainable or active travel.
The rapid evidence assessment evaluates the research evidence on whether behavioural interventions can be more effective if they coincide with moments of change.
These reports were written by the DfT Behavioural Science team, the Behavioural Insights team and TRL.
